 Worlds of Imperfection

If given the chance to choose to live in the world of Mildred, will you leave our world of continuos pain and struggles for the world of fake pleasure? Will you burn books to escape complexity of things and live in a numb world? Will you choose to be fed by other’s knowledge than searching it yourself?

The two worlds are similar because they were both worlds of imperfections but what separates them is how they treat their limitations and their concept of living.

Living is not as easy as existing, therefore it is only predictable that while you are living you will face complexities or troubles in life that you need to pass through to make you a lot better and stronger person. This is the concept of living in our world, fighting an endless fight towards contentment and happiness. Man in nature will never be contented; the more he gets the more he craves for more wherever world he might be.

In the novel, the author portrayed a world which is a contradiction of the world where we exist. The society in the novel burn intellectual books because the government doesn’t want them to think beyond what they should because for them books only give complications that triggers an individual to be emotional about things because books contain ideas that are in contradiction. On the other hand our government wants us to read books so that we can be of help to our country when we are knowledgeable about things. This is also the reason why our parents sent us to school to be knowledgeable about facts of things. The concept of schooling in the novel is more on the physical while ours is on the mental aspect. Billboards are also created so tall so that they can resist the speed of the fast speeding cars. Yes, they were made that way because they have this weird law which states that people driving 40 miles per hour should be jailed, weird isn’t it? Unlike in our world, the concept of close family ties is also neglected in the novel, people like Mildred is more attached to the people whom she saw in her walls which she called “The Family” that in fact not related to her. They also forced their selves to enjoy watching the “White Clowns” which gave them fake sense of humor to add a little bit color in their numb world. They chose to be spoon-fed by others, even their happiness is based on what their government tells them. The concept of living in this world in the novel is mere existing because they just live by what is there. Their life is of no thrill for they took no risk. They were so obedient and did not even bother to ask why. The world where Mildred exists is a world of fake contentment and pleasure, it is a world that is more complicated than what we have because it’s imperfections are hidden somewhere in their selves that when it comes out it will make such a chaotic situation.

So, if asked to be there or just stay? It is wise enough to stay and continue to strive than be in a world that the fight hasn’t started yet.

 Change of Heart
I was 7 years old when my family migrated from the rural area to the urban because of employment purposes. Everything seems so new and strange so inorder to be familiar with things, I decided to have a walk. When I was walking in the streets, I was amazed and thrilled when everything I saw is new and strange, and all the persons I saw wear a big question mark on their faces. I was wondering who are they, if they are nice, friendly and kind, whether I can be friends with them or they are bad and wicked like the step sisters of Cinderella or the wicked witch in Hansel and Gretel. I stopped on an open field that seems to be a playground where I see little kids playing…  I noticed that the kids that are playing are boys, some are playing hide and seek while others are playing basketball with their unprofessionally made basketball ring. I wonder where the girls of these place are, are they some kind of a vampire that are afraid to be heated by the sun? I was there for a long time just watching them; I was shy then to join them because I don’t know how to play what they are playing. Then, one kid saw me and walked towards me; he then smiled and said, “Hi, you’re new here right? I’m Kevin, come and join us, it will be a lot of fun”.  I refused to join them because I don't know how to play the game and it is so awkward to play with boys. But as days passed by, I felt the feeling that I wanted them to be my friends because I don’t want to be alone  in a very strange place and the worst thing is  I just found out that there are no girls there of our age, at that time (girls are very little kids and can’t play), it is strange but it’s true. And so, I did everything just to be like them, and be able to know every game they would want us to play. From that day on, people thought I’m one of the boys because of the games I play and the toy’s I like, which at first made me feel uncomfortable but in the end, I told myself, “so what if they think like that, anyway it’s not true so, just don’t mind them”. That was the reason why I appreciate more the boy things than the girls’ though at first I don't even know how to play boy games.

Migration may affect a child emotionally, because of social and cultural dislocation. During a certain transfer of a child, one is placed to a new environment with strange people but the biggest aspect that affects a child is his search to find new friends. And upon finding new friends, the child will soon be influenced with the habits and acts of his new friends may it be good or bad. Peer influence is such a great factor of what certain child will be in his/her process of growing up. But then, everybody has the decision of who and what kind of friends will he/she have.  Do not let others manipulate your life or do things according to their perspective because what you will become tomorrow is still the product of the choices you made in the past and today.

CAUSE AND EFFECT (COMM1BLOG#2)

WHAT I AM TODAY...

From the day that I was born until today, my life is pre-determined by the society where my parents belong to, what i am today is because of my religious and ethnic backgrounds. Filipino religious beliefs were influenced by the foreign invaders long time ago, one of such is Catholicism. And being a Filipino, I have been raised as a catholic who believes in one God Almighty. My parents taught me the ten commandments that should be followed, for me to be able to enter heaven after death. I should do things and act according to what the catholic society has decided as right. This catholic society is also influenced by the ethnic background of the Filipino society. The Filipino society implies that one should be respectful, obedient, patriotic and god-fearing. I have lived my life for the past sixteen years having my religious and ethnic backgrounds as my asymptotes on becoming a better individual.

 FRIENDS: TRUSTWORTHY OR NOT?

"No man is an Island", the saying goes. it means all of us need friends to survive and live happily.Humans are that dependent to the people around her, she always want to have somebody to lean on and gets moral support from them. We now involve ourselves in a relationship called Friendship, where we can gather emotional supports from different individuals we call friends. Friendship is a relationship between individuals who give sympathy to each other. A Friend is someone who gives you  concern, helping you out in times of trouble, cries with you in when you felt like crying, laughs with you when your happy and cheerful. But the case is not always like that, sometimes your friend is not that perfect as mentioned above. They are also human created by God with imperfections, Friends are people you can't always trust because we can always expect them to commit mistakes even if we consider them as our best friend.

Your friends are not that trustworthy always. Take for instance, you told your friend who your crush is and told her not to tell to anyone as it will be a shame on you. She said, "Don't worry, your secret is safe with me". You trusted her that she will not spread your secret, but few days after, you'll discover that your secret leaked out, out of curiosity you investigated who spread it. You were shocked when you found out that your friend spread your secret. But what is frightening is when you invited your friend into your house for a birthday party. You let her in your room and then left her because you needed to go to the comfort room. When the party was over , she bade goodbye and so you went to your room to sleep listening to a slow rock music. But you just can't find your I-phone. You searched for it everywhere but you just cant find it. You then realize that your friend took it. Isn't it sad to give your trust to someone and then betrayed.

You might say that it is not true, that you can always trust your friends because it depends on the person whom you will consider as friend and give her your trust but, Isn't it true that whoever and whatever your friend is, it will not change the fact that they are also humans capable to be mistaken because they are still humans?

Indeed, your friends are people you can't always trust because nobody is perfect. So even your nicest friends can sometimes be rude and harsh to you. You should expect the unexpected and be prepared when that time will come. It is just right to belong in a certain group of people whom you called friends but remember that we are born without them and you can't be with them after death. so don't give full sympathy, love and devotion to your friends, especially trust because your friends are your worst enemies...
